A lot of people all around the world visit a country club to participate in golf, tennis, and other recreational activities. But before joining it, there are some things they should know. Wondering what?

Rule #1: Forget about jogging clothes

The country club is a professional environment, so avoid anything too casual or sporty such as jogging clothes. You want to look polished and put-together, not like you’re going to the town for a coffee or doing morning stretching routine. So, leave your favorite athletic sneakers or tight leggings for another day.

Country club attire is more formal than everyday clothes, so ensure you’ve dressed accordingly. Dress rules are usually stringent, so if you wear your jogging clothes, the staff would probably ask you to change into something else before entering.

Rule #2: T-Shirts and sleeveless shirts should always have a collar

Collared T-shirt is a “must-wear“ piece in many country clubs as it instills a sense of professionalism and respectability. Also, the collar makes your country club style more sophisticated. 

So, if you’re trying to leave a good impression on potential clients or business contacts, this is an easy way to do it. The same rule applies to sleeveless shirts, too.

Rule #3: No swimwear allowed

Swimwear is not allowed in country clubs because members doing other activities may be distracted by people wearing swimwear. 

Let’s admit it; it’s just natural that sometimes a man unconsciously pays attention to a woman in a bikini, just like a woman will turn after a man in swim trunks. However, in a club that prides itself on professionalism and culture, this should not happen. For that reason, members can only wear swimwear in and around the swimming pool.

Rule #4: Avoid cargo-style shorts

Many men wear cargo shorts without considering their surroundings and how their clothing may be perceived. While wearing cargo shorts around town is fine, if you plan to join a country club or upscale party, it’s best to leave them at home.

Rule #5: No hats and visors worn backwards

Visors and hats worn backward are also not allowed in country clubs because of their association with rap, gang, and street culture. Apart from being seen as a fashion faux pas, it also goes against the country club’s dress code.

You can wear a golf shirt or sports shirt with a collar; they are very similar. The only difference is that golf shirts have buttons while sports ones don’t.

Besides golf shirts we’ve just covered, golf slacks are another perfect option to wear to a country club. They are a staple, primarily because of their versatility and ability to be worn with a polo or button-down shirt. 

Golf slacks usually contain lightweight fabric designed to be comfortable and allow a full range of motion. While they are most commonly associated with golf, you can also wear them to other activities.
